What makes the meat at Harr Farms so much better than the super market?
That's easy, the production of all meat at Harr Farms is done without the use of any hormones. In supermarket meat they add preservatives and tenderizers to their meat.
With Harr Farms All Natural Hormone Free Beef the consumer picks their own calf and weight at slaughter. The calf is purchased at live weight, then delivered to the packing house for processing. Live weight ranges from 800 - 1000 lbs. per calf. The price for the calf at live weight varies from $1.15 - $1.30 per pound for the 2007 crop. (Market determines the price for beef per pound.)
After the selection of the calf, the consumer will then select the packing house of their choice (packing fees are the responsibility of the consumer) to pack the meat.
With the selection of both the calf and the packing house the consumer also determines the the types of cuts/portions that the consumer is interested in. Example cuts can be seen on the picture to the right.
An example order could be the following:
(All cuts/portions are based on what the calf will yield.)
What are packing houses? Packing houses is where the calf will be delivered for slaughter, this is where the meat will be packaged for the consumer to be picked up or for Harr Farms to pick up and deliver to the consumer.
Prices vary per packing house.
Packing houses will include a kill bill as well as a per per pound yield to package the meat.
The following is a list of recommended packing houses in the area:
